Texas Wins (but only on gas prices)

Sooner fans may want to fill up on more than just State Fair Food!

October 2, 2018 - Sooner fans in Dallas for the Red River Showdown may want to fill up their tanks while south of the Red River. According to AAA, today’s Oklahoma gas prices average $ .08 higher per gallon than those in Texas - $2.72 in Oklahoma versus $2.64 in Texas.

Texas has the eighth lowest gas prices in the nation this week. Oklahoma’s higher pump prices can be partially attributed to the $.03-a-gallon gas tax hike in place since July. Averages in Dallas are $2.65 a gallon while motorists are paying an average of $2.70 in Oklahoma City and Tulsa.

“Gas may be one thing Sooner fans can save a little on after paying hefty prices for game tickets,” said Leslie Gamble, AAA Oklahoma spokesperson. “Before heading south, we urge fans to get their vehicles ready with checks of tires and all vehicle systems to avoid unexpected breakdowns in heavy traffic.”

Motorists can find current gas prices along their routes with the free AAA Mobile app. The app can also be used to map a route, find discounts, book a hotel and access AAA roadside assistance.

The national gas price average has increased three cents on the week to land at $2.88 – a national average not seen since mid-July.

“The last quarter of the year has kicked off with gas prices that feel more like summer than fall,” said Gamble. “This time of year, motorists are accustomed to seeing prices drop steadily, but due to continued global supply and demand concerns as well as very expensive summertime crude oil prices, motorists are not seeing relief at the pump.”

Today’s national gas price average ($2.88) is the most expensive for the beginning of October since 2014. The average is four cents more than a month ago and 32 cents more than a year ago.
